Railroads produced as promotional items many pens and pencils with the railroad name on them. There are also fancier and more desirable pens or writing sets that were made for railroad managers or other high ranking employees. Objects that were cheap, newer, or commonly given away such as pencils or ballpoint pens will be cheap items that a new collector might enjoy, or could be a fun way to get a young person involved in the hobby.
